So our good friends at MSESPN, presently losing over 15,000 subscribers a day and publicly discussing the idea that they won’t be able to afford Monday Night Football, released a new social media policy yesterday.
Like most decisions at MSESPN the new social media policy is basically rearranging deck chairs on the Titanic so I’m not going to get into all the details of the new policy, but I will point out one portion — the one dealing with politics.
Outside of “hard” news reporting, commentary related to political or social issues,
candidates or office holders should be consistent with these guidelines:
+ The subject matter should merit our audience’s interests, and be worthy of our time,
space and resources; we should be in position to discuss the issue with authority and
be factually accurate.
+ The topic should be related to a current issue impacting sports, unless otherwise
approved by senior editorial management. This condition may vary for content
appearing on platforms with broader editorial missions – such as The Undefeated,
FiveThirtyEight and espnW.
+ Commentaries on relevant sports-related issues are appropriate, but we should refrain
from overt partisanship or endorsement of particular candidates, politicians or political
+ The presentation should be thoughtful and respectful. We should offer balance or
recognize opposing views, as warranted. We should avoid personal attacks and
+ Communication with producers and editors must take place prior to commentary on
any political or social issues to manage volume and ensure a fair and effective
presentation. These guidelines act in concert with all ESPN editorial standards &
practices, including those governing social media and commentary, and apply on
ESPN, Twitter, Facebook and other media.
So this will change everything, right?

Please refer to the policy above, it appears Sarah Spain violated every rule in ESPN’s new social media policy within four hours of it being released when she called a Twitter employee who turned off Donald Trump’s Twitter account a hero.
Not surprisingly, MSESPN did nothing to her.
Because the real policy at MSESPN is this — rip Donald Trump and his supporters as much as you’d like and you’ll get promoted.
Speaking of which, according to sources inside ESPN who believe their management are also idiots, noted social justice warrior Bomani Jones will lose his ESPN radio show soon because he has lost 90 affiliates — the most in sports talk radio history at ESPN — advertising revenue for his show has collapsed, and nationwide affiliates have been demanding ESPN Radio to replace him for months.
ESPN will spin this as PC Bromani’s decision so he could spend more time on his TV show, but it wasn’t. The show was an abject failure and was tanking ESPN Radio.
I’m sure that new TV show starring the least successful personality in ESPN radio history will be a tremendous success.
Congrats to PC Bromani and his bosses on their excellent management decisions that, according to y’all, are even worse than the Cleveland Browns!
